Hello all LVYC Sailors,
Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year.
At the last committee meeting it was decided that we will not run the gazetted race and sail training on the 29th January 2017. With it potentially being a long weekend for many due to the Australia Day holiday it was felt many members will be away. Instead the 12th February will become a 2 race day. We also resolved to start racing at 1.30pm instead of 2pm. Please help the ladies in the kiosk by ordering your lunch early as they need to be cleaned up and upstairs to time keep earlier as well. The official change to Sailing Instructions will be displayed on 22nd January at the Rear Commodores Cup.
Don't forget the Eastern Region Regatta at Lake Wellington Yacht Club on the 4th and 5th February. The invitation race is on the Saturday with the two race series on the Sunday. Overnight camping is available for the Saturday night. Come along for a fun sailing event and support the club in its quest to win the coveted interclub trophy.
The Ross Smith Torchlight Challenge has been rescheduled to Saturday 25th March. The Committee hopes to make it a memorable event given that this will be the last time we sail with the power station lights in the background. Not all members or vessels are well suited to night racing but there are things we can do to get you on the water. Members are encouraged to support this unique event. Visitors sailing trailerable yachts are most welcome to participate
Welcome To The Latrobe Valley Yacht Club
The Latrobe Valley Yacht Club is located on the banks of the Hazelwood Pondage on the Yinnar Road close to the towns of Morwell and Churchill in the Latrobe Valley.
The club celebrated its 50th anniversary since inception last year.
We are unique in that the waters on which we sail is the cooling pondage for the Hazelwood Power Station which means that the water temperature is consistently in the 22-24 degrees Celsius range.
We have a summer and winter sailing program (details can be found by clicking on the sailing program link). Members sail a mix of trailer sailers and off the beach dinghys and catamarans.
Our flagship event is the iconic Sauna Sail which is held on the three days of the Queens Birthday weekend in June.. (further details can be found by clicking on the sauna sail link)
We run sail training programs during the summer season and also Sailability programs (further information can be found by clicking on the Sailability link)
Whilst we are a relatively small club we are a very active and welcoming club. We welcome visitors and new members alike. If you would like further information please feel free to approach one of our members on sailing days or phone our commodore Geoff Conway on 0418318900
