2017 Latrobe City Sauna Sail
ITS STILL ON !!
Many of you will have heard that the Hazelwood Power Station is closing at the end of March and are wondering what’s happening to the 2017 Sauna Sail.
Well you don’t need to worry any longer as its still on only the water will be cold.
Preparation for the 2017 event to be held on the Queen's birthday weekend (10-12th June) is well underway. Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions will be posted in the upcoming weeks.
We trust that the sailing community will continue to support this iconic regatta. While the water will be cold we guarantee a very warm welcome and hot competition for all competitors.
Welcome To The Latrobe Valley Yacht Club
The Latrobe Valley Yacht Club is located on the banks of the Hazelwood Pondage on the Yinnar Road close to the towns of Morwell and Churchill in the Latrobe Valley.
The club celebrated its 50th anniversary since inception last year.
We are unique in that the waters on which we sail is the cooling pondage for the Hazelwood Power Station which means that the water temperature is consistently in the 22-24 degrees Celsius range.
We have a summer and winter sailing program (details can be found by clicking on the sailing program link). Members sail a mix of trailer sailers and off the beach dinghys and catamarans.
Our flagship event is the iconic Sauna Sail which is held on the three days of the Queens Birthday weekend in June.. (further details can be found by clicking on the sauna sail link)
We run sail training programs during the summer season and also Sailability programs (further information can be found by clicking on the Sailability link)
Whilst we are a relatively small club we are a very active and welcoming club. We welcome visitors and new members alike. If you would like further information please feel free to approach one of our members on sailing days or phone our commodore Geoff Conway on 0418318900
