Sauna Sail 2018
Is this the last Sauna Sail?
There has been a lot of discussion in the media about the closure of Hazelwood Power Station which has led to misconceptions about the Pondage and Sauna Sail. We at LVYC have received a number of questions about Sauna Sail 2018. We would like to reassure all sailors that planning for Sauna Sail 2018 is well advanced and is being held again on the Queens Birthday Weekend 9th - 11th of June.
It is increasingly likely that the Hazelwood Cooling Pondage will be returned to farmland as part of the power station site rehabilitation in the near future. If you haven't sailed in a Sauna Sail and wish to do so or are a returning sailor we encourage your participation as it is possible that 2018 could be the last.
Welcome To The Latrobe Valley Yacht Club
The Latrobe Valley Yacht Club is located on the banks of the Hazelwood Pondage on the Yinnar Road close to the towns of Morwell and Churchill in the Latrobe Valley.
The club celebrated its 50th anniversary since inception last year.
We are unique in that the waters on which we sail is the cooling pondage for the Hazelwood Power Station which means that the water temperature is consistently in the 22-24 degrees Celsius range.
We have a summer and winter sailing program (details can be found by clicking on the sailing program link). Members sail a mix of trailer sailers and off the beach dinghys and catamarans.
Our flagship event is the iconic Sauna Sail which is held on the three days of the Queens Birthday weekend in June.. (further details can be found by clicking on the sauna sail link)
We run sail training programs during the summer season and also Sailability programs (further information can be found by clicking on the Sailability link)
Whilst we are a relatively small club we are a very active and welcoming club. We welcome visitors and new members alike. If you would like further information please feel free to approach one of our members on sailing days or phone our commodore Geoff Conway on 0418318900
